Soror Chloe’ Edwina Jones
Soror Chloe’ E. Jones has accomplished has certainly distinguished herself in a few short months. Not only is she presently the Basileus of Delta Beta Sigma Chapter, in Norfolk, VA, she has been selected as the Sigma Woman of the Year AND The 2008 National Alumnus of the Year for Norfolk State University Alumni Association, Inc. She became a member of Sigma Gamma Rho Sorority, Inc. in 1971 through Gamma Nu Chapter at Norfolk State College (now University). Soror Chloe’ was a member of Iota Sigma in Richmond and has previously served as an Advisor on the campus Virginia Commonwealth University. She was Sigma Gamma Rho Sorority, Inc, Delta Beta Sigma Chapter, Unsung Hero in 2006. She works tirelessly to promote the sorority and assists members in a variety of ways. Under her leadership, the chapter recently held its’ 1st Miss Tea Rose Presentation with 12 middle school girls from the Hampton Roads area and with the assisted in the establishment of Sorors Ruth W. Diggs/Annabel Scarborough Sigma Gamma Rho Sorority, Inc. Endowed Scholarship Fund for Norfolk State University. Soror Chloe’ received a Bachelor of Science in Special Education from Norfolk State College (1973) and a Masters of Arts in Vocational Education from Virginia Poly Technical and State University (1986). A retired educator, she taught in the Norfolk, Richmond, and Chesapeake School Systems for a total of 31 years. Presently, she holds position as Enrollment Counselor at Cambridge College located in Chesapeake, VA. Some of her contributions to Norfolk State University include co-coordinated the Employment Seminar for exiting students in the Special Education Department and Praxis Tutorial schedules; a volunteer for the Annual Phone-A-Thon; naming of Melvin and Patricia Stith Alumni House Copy and Mail Room through contributions to NSUF. She is National Recording Secretary of NSUAA and 1st Vice President of the Chesapeake Chapter. As a member of the NSUAA membership committee she recruited more than 125 members since March 2007. She served as chair of the NSUAA 35th Anniversary event which netted over $13,000 for NSUF. Finally, she chaired NSUAA membership recruitment and NSUF scholarship giving for Third Baptist Church, Portsmouth, VA which resulted in over $32,000 to NSUF and over 120 new alumni members. Soror Chloe’ is a life member of NSU Alumni Association, NAACP, 1st Vice President and Program Chair of National Council of Negro Women, Inc., Norfolk Section, a Trustee and Scholarship Chair at Third Baptist Church, Portsmouth, and the Chesapeake Democratic Committee. She has been a volunteer with Project Homeless, Salvation Army, For Kids, American Breast Cancer Walk, and AmFr’am Fest. Soror Chloe’s professional accomplishments include: Who’s Who Among American Young Women, Who’s Who Among America’s Teachers, Iota Phi Lambda Sorority, Inc, Apple Teach Award, NSUAA Distinguished Alumnus, Portsmouth Chapter of Delicados, Inc. Black Educator’s Award.
